Carol A. Broshjeit, age 78, of New Haven, went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2018. She was a daughter of the late Emil & Anna Knie Broshjeit. Carol was the sister of Frederick Broshjeit, aunt of Susan (Michael) Mendick, and Fred Broshjeit, and the beloved great aunt of Avery and Logan Mendick.
Carol graduated from Albertus Magnus College in 1962 and was active in her alumni association. She worked for 47 years at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Carol was always very proud of the fact that she was one of the original pioneers in helping to establish one of the VA’s (and nation’s) first network integrated automated laboratory environments. Up until then, laboratory results were still written by hand and manually relayed to the physicians. She was in on the ground floor performing some of the original work which led to the development of our modern-day Electronic Health Record in use today.
She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and was the church’s organist for many years. Carol enjoyed travelling, especially to Germany with her great niece.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 780 Grassy Hill Road, Orange, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to Zion Lutheran Church 780 Grassy Hill Road, Orange, CT or in honor of Carol Broshjeit, Class of 1962 Albertus Magnus College Office of Advancement, 700 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT 06511.

Heartfelt Sympathies

I did not know Carol well, but consider her to be one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever met. We became acquainted through the twice yearly Albertus bus trips that she organized to New York City. I have participated in these trips for many years, and grew to admire Carol so much for her warmth, her smile, and always her deep concern for all of us passengers. These trips must have required a good deal of work to prepare, but you would never know it from Carol's relaxed, friendly and caring attitude. I will miss her very much, and wish to express my deepest and sincere sympathy to her entire family. Beverly Harrison,North Haven, CT

Carol has been my forever friend. In the Fall of 1958, I met Carol during our weekend orientation at Albertus; she was my assigned roommate. We were both anxious and excited about starting college and we shared stories about our high school years and our anticipation about Albertus. When it was time for lights out, I knew I had a friend at Albertus. Through the years, Carol has been a steadfast presence in my life. True to her yearbook caption: "Her friendship is straightforward and springs from the heart," Carol offered the gift of friendship to everyone she met. She left us all with an abundance of warm memories.

Carol and I spent years in rainbow, with my dad driving, until we were were of age. I missed her Christmas card this year. Hope she received mine. What a lovely lady. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.. Judy Sargent Herzman, Cheshire, Connecticut

My condolences to Carol's family. I had the great pleasure to work with Carol at the VA in West Haven until my retirement. Carol had a great sense of humor and always had a ready smile whenever I saw her. I will miss her but I know she is now among the angels. - Nelly McCrory former VACT coworker

Carol was close to Mary Batrow, and we always included her when we had holiday gatherings. She was honored to be a part of our family and we loved having her with us. She frequently visited the Café I managed and we would talk about her health but had a positive attitude. She always talked about her trips to Germany and Bermuda. She hoped to visit Bermuda again but that was not in the cards. I enjoyed our friendship and am saddened by her passing.
