Jay W. Barrett, 44, of West Haven, took his flight to Heaven on March 13, 2019 after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. He leaves behind a loving family, including his mother Glenda Barrett, his sisters Dawn (John) Flagg, WH Councilwoman Bridgette Hoskie, six nephews and two nieces, Brian Banning, Jr., William and Nicholas Banning, Jada Cintron, Emanuel Hoskie, Jr., Jalen and Qusaan Hoskie, Tianna Greene, six great nieces and nephews, and his tribe, Mikey Milano, Rosina Daniels, Harry Benson, Maria Carfora, Christine and Anthony Micarelli. Jay was predeceased by his father, Arthur G. Barrett, Sr., and his brother Arthur G. Barrett, Jr.
Jay loved his family very much, his nieces and nephews meant everything to him. His favorite sports teams include the Celtics, Mets, and NY Giants. He hated the Cowboys! He will be remembered for his strong opinions, loose mouth and never backing down.
Visitation will take place on SATURDAY from 11 am to 2 pm, with a Funeral Service at 1 pm, at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Connecticut Chapter 101 Centerpoint Drive, Suite 107 Middletown, CT 06457.

Dear Family, I did not know Jay, but I was moved by the love he shared with his sister and the love she and Jay's loved ones had for him when they reached out to the President of the United States on Jay's behalf. Your belief and hope that the President would respond led Jay to experience one of his dreams. I pray that you will all feel Jay's love and gratitude for the love and care you showed him as you mourn his passing, and be comforted by God's divine love. May Jay rest in peace and experience the eternal wonders and majesty of heaven. Susan

Jay was a wonderful direct care support staff for our son, Jay Guite, who shared the same first name and birthday day, February 11, with Jay Barrett! A special coincidence that made JB's visits to assist our Jay so very special, meaningful and memorable. Jay Guite moved to Little Oaks where JB was employed and looked forward to a continuing relationship. The Guite family was saddened to hear that Jay Barrett would not be able to continue working with "the guys" due to medical issues. However, Jay Guite and his family will always remember the wonderful way that JB interacted with all of the special needs folks he served while working at HARC. So proud of the work he did and and the memories he leaves behind with all at HARC who knew and loved him. A wonderful young man who has left us all too soon. Fondly remembered by the Guite Family.
