Herodica Barreto Velez

On May 19, 2019 Herodica Barretto Velez, loving wife and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 96, in West Haven, CT. Formerly of New York City and Puerto Rico.

Herodica was born in Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Javier Barreto and Maria Velez. During the latter years of her life, prior to her retirement, she worked for the U.S. Postal Service. She raised four children, Carmen, Vivian, Rosemarie, and Ralph, Jr.

She was a strong woman of faith and prayer. She was the conduit in which the family came to know Christ. She was everything a child could ever ask for in a mother, having all the characteristics of unconditional love.

She is survived by her children: Vivian and her husband William of West Haven, CT and Ralph Virno and his wife Lisa of Lansford, PA; her grandchildren Desiree, Ashley, Annie, Edward, Rosemary, Corinne, Gabrielle, Charles and Jonathan; and her great grandchildren Matthew, Andrew, James, Lauren, Alyssa, Edward Joseph  “E.J.”, David Jonathan “D.J.”, Joshua James “J.J.”, David, Isabella and Carmendy.  She was predeceased by her husbands, Ralph Virno and Joseph Cristalo Faria.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon from 2-4pm at the West Haven funeral Home at the Green. Interment will be in the family plot in Brooklyn, NY.
