Robert M. Thorpe, age 84, of West Haven passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2019. For 38 years, he was the loving husband of Rebecca Hollern Thorpe. Bob was born in Waterbury, son of the late Eugene and Amelia Miles Thorpe. He is also survived by his daughter Jill DeCianne and her husband Jim of Seattle, WA, his daughter in law Katie Thorpe of Voluntown, his grandsons Eugene Thorpe Jr. and Camden Doyle, his brother Roger Thorpe and his wife MaryAnn of Wallingford, his sister Donna Hollinger and her husband Drew of West Haven, his brother in law Jack Barry of Danbury, brother-in-law Robert (Sandy) Hollern of Shelton and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son Eugene Thorpe Sr. and his sisters Gail Thorpe, Margaret Marcarelli and Joann Barry. Bob served in the US Navy, aboard the USS Wright. He retired from the New Haven Register and throughout his life he was a bartender, specifically at the old Billy’s, which is where he met his love, Becky. He was a member of VFW and American Veterans. Bob loved his family, friends, music, a good cigar and a good laugh.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Milford at 11am. Interment will be private. Please omit flowers and make a donation to the West Haven Animal Shelter.
