Andrew C. Mongillo, Sr., 91, of Orange entered into rest on August 19, 2023. For 53 years, he was the husband of the late Anna Barletta Mongillo, who died in 2006. Left to honor his legacy are his daughter Joanne M. Simpson; son and daughter-in-law Andrew C. Mongillo, Jr. and Penny Mongillo; grandchildren Robert (Eileen Fennell) Simpson and Kathleen Simpson, Andrew C. Mongillo III and Stephanie (Sean) Glynn, and his first great-grandchild Declan Glynn.
Mr. Mongillo proudly joined the Air Force in 1951. During the Korean War, he was stationed in Iceland where he installed radar equipment to monitor unidentified planes flying across the North Pole. He was honorably discharged in 1954 as an airman first class and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In 1969, Andrew established Hi-Fashion Cleaners which, under the direction of his son Andy, continues to be a family-owned and operated business.
Visitation will take place on Thursday morning August 24 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. John XXIII Parish, at St. John Vianney Church at 11 a.m. Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the West Haven Veterans Museum.
