Anna Houston Obituary

Anna Viglione Houston, a lifelong West Haven resident, entered into rest on February 9, 2021.  Born on March 5, 1938 in New Haven, CT,  she was the wife of the late Robert R. Houston and the loving companion of Carl Dawson.  Devoted mother of Roseanne (Tracey) Gagne, Robert (Gail) Houston and David Houston.  Proud Nonnie of Melissa MacLeod, Matthew and Marla Gagne, Samantha and Megan Houston and great grandmother of Mason and Olivia MacLeod.  Sister of Pat Casagrande and Stephen Viglione.  Anna also leaves her daughter-in-law Rose Houston, sister-in-law Mutzie Viglione, dearest childhood friend Beverly Smart and many nieces, nephews and friends.  In addition to her late husband, Anna is predeceased by her parents Gaetano and Angelina Isaco Viglione, her in-laws John and Hazel Houston and her siblings Gennaro, Dominic, John, James and Nancy Viglione and Theresa Marino.

A 1956 graduate of West Haven High School, she retired in 2001 from Yale University where she was employed as an insurance representative.  Anna’s family enjoyed her Italian cooking and baking, and she always looked forward to family gatherings.  In her early days, she enjoyed ceramics and competed in archery tournaments. Her favorite past times included playing cards, doing word searches, watching baseball, and avidly reading. She was a devout Catholic, a patient listener and a gentle soul who will be deeply missed by all.

Anna’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs at Yale-New Haven Hospital ICU and at CT. Hospice for the wonderful care and attention given to Anna.

All services are private at this time.  A Mass will be celebrated at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CT Hospice or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
