Anthony Outlaw Obituary

Anthony Dale Outlaw, Sr., 58, of West Haven, died on August 2, 2022, surrounded by his family.  Born in New Haven on September 16, 1963, a son of Darlene Outlaw and the late Eddie “Jake” Hammie. Anthony is survived by his loving wife Djuna Outlaw; sons Anthony Jr., Michael Outlaw, Davin Moore, Joshua (Jazmin) Edwards, and Keith Edwards; daughters Ariel Outlaw and Deshana Edwards; sisters Jacqueline Outlaw and Charlene (Michael) Harris; brothers Gary (Patricia) Outlaw and Tyrone (Stephani) Outlaw; 11 grandchildren and a host of aunt's, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Anthony is preceded in death by his grandmother Faye Helen Outlaw, his daughter Antonika Outlaw, his brother Stephen Outlaw, uncles James, Curtis, and Dallas Outlaw; aunt Lois Howard, and grandchild Royce Outlaw.

Anthony or “Tony”, as some knew him, grew up in Quinnipiac housing in New Haven.  He enjoyed sports, favorably baseball and karate, whereby he earned his 3rd degree black belt.  He attended New Haven public schools and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School.  He held various jobs, but his greatest passion was serving the Lord and doing Outreach Ministry. He loved volunteering as a coach for Pop Smith Little League Baseball, and so for 21 years.   He coached his boys Joshua, Keith, and Michael to play the sport very well, winning several championships including the 2005 and 2006 double-win with an excursion to the Urban Initiative Jamboree of Williamsport, PA. His team beat all three opposing teams where Tony met Tori Hunter and his team were honored to play the Lamada Field at the Little League World Series.  He also helped condition Anthony Jr. for his training with Pop Warner Football and enjoyed every moment of it, his wife by his side.  Sports enthusiasm also continues for son Michael, who plays softball and is honored to receive calls from various coaches requesting he join their traveling team.  Tony firmly believed in encouraging and teaching his children many life lessons, most importantly- stay off the streets and stay in school.  He will long be remembered as a very generous man; giving, loving, helpful, always family-oriented, down-to-earth, and for those who knew him best- his unending sarcastic wit. Our hearts ache for him, and all will miss him dearly.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 8, from 5 to 7 o’clock.  A funeral service will then be held in the parlor at seven o’clock.  Interment will be private.  The Outlaw family wishes to thank everyone for their many acts of kindness, condolences, food, and flowers.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race.  I have kept the faith.  From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on the that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.  2Timothy 4:7
