Anthony Ruggiero, age 88, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2021. Born in New Haven on January 16, 1932, a son to the late Mathew & Catherine Vietro Ruggiero. Anthony is survived by his loving wife, of 65 years, Josephine Falcone Ruggiero, his children, Susan (Albert Jr.) Greenwood, Cathy Ruggiero Bode, JoAnn (Frank) Ruggiero Ottens, Stephanie (Mark) Ruggiero Chirgwin, his grandchildren, Albert (Sharline) Greenwood, Christina (Justin) Baker, Melissa (Kevin) O’Mara, Jessica (John) Siconolfi, Nicole Reilly, Anthony Bode, Casandra (C.J.) Romanos, Ryan Reilly, Brandon Reilly, Caitlyn Arpino and C.J. Arpino, and his beloved great-grandchildren, Brooklynn & Colton O’Mara, Bransen & Evalyn Baker and Chase Romanos. Anthony was predeceased by his brother, Gennaro Ruggiero.
Anthony was a proud US Navy Veteran, serving from 1951- 1954. For 50 years, he was the owner and operator of Mathew’s Beauty Salon. Anthony was an avid NY Mets & Jets fan. Anthony enjoyed to garden, cooking, vacationing and listening to Italian music. Anthony's most important part of his life was spending time with his family.
Anthony’s family would like to thank the West Shore Fire Department, Hillary Cain, the staff of the 9th floor Yale MICU, the West Haven VA Medical Center and all the home healthcare workers for the compassionate care they offered.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, from 4-7 PM at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning at 10:30 for A Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Victory, St. John Vianney Campus, at 11am. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, with full military honors.
