Barbara Ann DeGennaro, 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, in Milford.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Frank J. DeGennaro as well as her siblings Marguerite Sapiente, Eleanora Criscuolo, and Alfred Comboni. Barbara leaves behind her devoted children June DeGennaro (Kenneth Ghilardi), Frank DeGennaro, Jacqueline Carrano (Chistopher), and Sandra Goodwin (Thomas); her grandchildren Barbara (Mark), Victoria (Keith), Amanda, Matthew, Jody, Wilson and Skye, in addition to her great-grandchildren Nicholas and Daniel.
Barbara grew up in Bethany, where she rode horses and danced the polka. After her marriage to Frank in 1952, she lived in Orange for the next seventy years. She worked for seventeen years as a baker at the University of New Haven before retiring in 1995. She found joy in the act of baking and cooking outside of work. She happily made assorted Christmas cookies during the holiday season, prepared the traditional Italian Easter pies, baked and decorated specially themed birthday cakes, and made the best lasagna. She cherished time spent with her family, whether at ballfields or dance recitals, or just gatherings in the backyard and around the dining room table. Barbara never failed to be present, supportive and encouraging to her children and was devoted to her grandchildren. Grandma's “daycare” was filled with art projects, movies, and tasty treats. Barbara's greatest gift was the unconditional love she gave us. Heaven has a new angel.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Civita Care at West River in Milford for the care, kindness and respect they showed Barbara and her family.
A Graveside Service will be held at Mount St. Peter Cemetery, 219 New Haven Ave, Derby on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 12 PM. Please meet at the cemetery office, just past the entrance gate.
