Barbara Marmaras, 74, of Naugatuck, CT, entered suddenly into eternal rest on May 1, 2026. Born in Bridgeport on October 30, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Mildred (Thomas) Gregorio. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, partner, and friend, she is survived by her devoted son, Louis Salado, and his wife Michelle; her adored grandchildren, Jonathan and Macie Salado, who were the absolute center of her world; her loving sister, Patty Dunlap, and brother-in-law, Jimmy; her niece, Cheryl Nichio, and nephew, Michael Moss; two great-nieces and a great-nephew. She is also survived by her loving partner of over 10 years, Michael Russo, and her faithful and beloved dog, Cooper.
Throughout her life, Barbara worked numerous roles, most notably as an order coordinator for Michelle’s Bakery and JLS Bakery. Her work ethic was matched only by her creativity. She had a special gift for crafting, and she poured her heart into making beautiful wreaths and decorative pieces that brought joy to many. She shared this passion with her sister, who loved going with her to shop for crafts and sometimes vending items at different craft fairs.
Barbara had a deep love for Christmas. It was her favorite holiday and she was always the first to put up her holiday decorations and the last to take them down. One of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren open the many gifts she lovingly selected for them. She doted on them endlessly and spoke of their accomplishments with immense pride to anyone who would listen. Barbara, affectionately known as “Bunny,” was also known for her spunky personality, witty comebacks, and lifelong resilience. She could always be counted on for a laugh—or for telling you exactly how she saw things. She enjoyed listening to her favorite music and singing along with her son, especially singing “Proud Mary” with him, a memory that will be treasured forever. She also loved cozy nights at home watching her favorite movies or Facebook reels, spending time with her dog, and sitting out on her deck with a cup of coffee feeding any animal that ventured into her yard.
Her vibrant spirit, creativity, and deep love for her family leave behind a legacy that will continue to live on in all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 6th at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green from 4 to 6 pm. A prayer service will commence at 6:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
