Borden P. ("Denny") Steeves, Jr.

Borden P. "Denny" Steeves, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. Born on February 19, 1942, Denny lived a life defined by service, dedication, adventure, and above all, love for his family. Denny was the beloved husband of Carolyn Holston Steeves and a devoted father to Terri Kiaunis (Jim); Mark Steeves (Micheline); and Christine Nuzzolo (Joe). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Cory Livernoche (Michael); Kyle Kiaunis (Katie); Mark Steeves, Jr.; Rachel Steeves; Joe Nuzzolo; Celia Nuzzolo (Tom Albertie); and Gino Nuzzolo. He was also the cherished great-grandfather of Michael, Madison, and Jack Livernoche, and Natalie and Cash Kiaunis. He is survived by his sister, Carol Crowley (Ed) as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Denny was predeceased by his parents, Norma and Borden Steeves, Sr., his sister, Marilyn Clark and his beloved fur baby, Mollie.

A graduate of Notre Dame High School, Class of 1959, Denny went on to earn a degree in Fire Science from the University of New Haven. He dedicated much of his life to public service, serving as a firefighter with the West Shore Fire Department, where he later retired after a distinguished career protecting his community. His dedication to public service extended far beyond the firehouse. Denny proudly served the community as a member of the West Haven City Council and later as Chairman of the West Haven Zoning Board of Appeals, where he worked tirelessly to strengthen and improve the city he loved. A longtime member of the New Haven County Emerald Society, he was a familiar and respected presence at community events, proudly serving as a flag bearer in parades for many years.

An adventurer at heart, Denny rode his motorcycle across the country as part of a tribute honoring the fallen heroes of September 11th, traveling from Connecticut to Denver, Colorado, alongside fellow firefighters from around the nation. He embraced life with enthusiasm and cherished the friendships and memories made along the way. For more than 20 years, Denny and Carolyn enjoyed life as snowbirds, spending their winters in Lakeview Estates in South Daytona, Florida, where they built lasting friendships and created treasured memories together.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. M. Maher and Dr. D. Hesse for their extraordinary compassion, dedication, and exceptional care over the past 28 years. Their support meant more to Denny and his family than words can adequately express.

Denny's greatest joy was his family. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, and the countless memories shared by those who knew him. Denny will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose knew him.

Visitation will take place on Friday morning June 12 from 10 until noon at the West Haven Funeral Home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital for leukemia research in honor of his beloved great-grandson, Jack Henry Livernoche.
