Calvin M. “Captain Cal” Riggio, 78, died peacefully at home on August 31, 2025, after a lengthy hospital admission at the West Haven VA Medical Center. Born on December 19, 1946, in Southampton, New York, a son of Michael and Ida Mae (Perry) Riggio. Survived by wife Mary Margaret (Lucibello) Riggio; son Michael Salvatore Riggio; daughter Tina (Luigi II) Garofano; grandchildren Alessandra Garofano, Luigi Garofano III, Grace Riggio, Mary Brown, and Makayla Brown; as well as brothers Salvatore & David Riggio.
A veteran of the US Navy, Calvin proudly served his country from April 1966 through March 1970.
His passion for television repair drove Cal to build his own business, “Cal’s T.V.” He loved boating, old cars – especially Jaguars – classic Doo-Wop music, and soaking up the sun. A loyal family man, Cal treasured spending time with loved ones and friends, and with Hector, his parrot of many years.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the West Haven VA Medical Center for their excellent, compassionate care.
Arrangements were entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private.
