Charles M. Maddelena, age 95, of West Haven passed away on June 20, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Lucille Savino Maddelena. Charles was born in New Haven, son of the late Dominic and Sarah Davidow Maddelena. He is survived by his children, Atty. Carol Caldwell of FL, Robert Maddelena of FL, Michael (Yasmin) Maddelena of West Haven, and Carmine (Kelly) Russo of CT, his grandchildren Nicole and Antoinette Russo, Carmine Russo Jr. and Isabella Maddelena. Charlie was predeceased by his first wife Elaine A. Butrico Maddelena and his brother Jack Nahmias.
In his youth, he was an accomplished swimmer. He excelled in the butterfly and free style. Charles made the Olympic trials in 1948. He went on to serve proudly in the US Army, in Germany during the Korean War. In his professional career, Charlie worked in the Defense/Aircraft Industry, retiring as a purchasing agent for EDO Corporation.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-6pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9am on Monday morning for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish. Interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to either the Amity Charitable Trust P.O.
