Christopher Michael Elgee, 51, of West Haven, Connecticut passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, due to complications from cancer. He is survived by his mother Sandy of Naples, FL and West Haven and is preceded in death by his father, Michael. Chris was born on October 13, 1974, in Milford, Connecticut. He graduated from Greens Farms Academy in 1993, Fairfield University in 1997 and received a master’s degree from Albertus Magnus. Chris was a long-time employee of the Stop and Shop Supermarket and loved his network of coworkers and customers, with whom he’d always share a warm greeting, entertaining story, or a witty joke.
Chris was an avid reader and a die-hard sports fan. While he followed all sports and loved all Boston teams, the Red Sox stood alone. Growing up in his house as his father’s son, he had no choice but to be a Sox fan. As a kid, rooting for the Red Sox was not easy. It required emotional fortitude and a deep-seeded, unbridled optimism that everything would always be better next season. It was that spirit of resilience and optimism that drove and defined Chris throughout his life.
Regardless of any health challenge or obstacle he had to face, Chris never dwelled on himself. Instead, he focused his energy and positivity towards the service of others. He was civic minded and always volunteered to help. He was an active participant in his community and was a regular presence at plays, fairs, concerts and events around the state.
Chris’s most passionate work was done on behalf of Donate Life, a nonprofit organization that promotes organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation. In 2008, Chris received a liver transplant as a result of the rare disease Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). Chris would often speak at assemblies and schools to share his story and promote organ donation. In 2018, Donate Life Connecticut recognized Chris as their Outstanding Volunteer of the year. Chris was an active member of the PSC support community and frequently attended annual conferences and gatherings around the country.
Chris navigated through life with kindness, generosity, grace and humor and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
