Clarence W. Brainard, Jr., 92, of West Haven entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2025 with his daughters caring for him. He was the son of the late Clarence W. and Edna Schramm Brainard, Sr. Clarence is survived by his cherished daughters Deborah and Mary Beth (Eugene McManus) and his two grand dogs Sadie and Declan, who brought him so much joy. He was predeceased by his loving wife Peggy Allen Brainard, his significant other Shirley Woodworth and his companion Elaine Welch.
Clarence proudly served in the US Navy, as a former crew member of the battleship USS Wisconsin BB64. In 1984 he retired from Western Electric after 31 years. He achieved his final work goal to collect his pension for many more years than he worked. The majority of his retirement was spent enjoying his family, wintering in Florida, salt water fishing and playing horseshoes, as a member of the New Haven Horseshoe Club.
On Thursday morning February 6, visitation will take place from 9 to 11 at the West Haven Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 11 o’clock, followed by military honors at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors.
