Constance Sylvia Richardson

Constance Sylvia Richardson, 90, of Bethany passed away at home on August 20, 2023.  She was the loving wife of the late James M. Richardson.  Constance was born in Philadelphia, PA, daughter of the late Floyd and Mildred Joyner Candie.  She is survived by her sons, Stephen M. Richardson of Bethany and Robert A. Richardson of West Hartford, her sisters Nancy Candie of PA, Elvira Hawkes of NJ and her niece Sharon Hawkes Brown and her husband David, and her great nieces Lauren & Candance Brown.

Constance received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut School of Nursing in 1957.  She then began her professional career, working as a Registered Nurse for Yale New Haven Hospital.  She was a recipient of the Northern Connecticut Black Nurses Association’s Collaborative Spirit Award in October of 2003.  She was very active in her community.  She was past president of the Bethany Garden Club and made hand-crafted jewelry, initially as a member of the Bethany Brass Band and then later under the name the Cat’s Meow.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Carrington Cemetery, Bethany.  There will be no hours for visitation.
