Denise (Carlucci) Burns

Denise Carlucci Burns, 74, died unexpectedly on August 7, 2025.  She was the wife of the late James T. Burns, Jr., retired West Shore Fire Chief and the proud mother of Christopher Burns.

 A dedicated and beloved teacher, Denise retired from the West Haven School system.  She taught Spanish at both Carrigan and West Haven High School. She made many friends and delighted in teaching throughout the years. Denise led a very fun and active life.  Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked diligently as a travel agent She travelled the world and looked forward to cruising with her family and yearly during the Christmas season with her son Chris.  She enjoyed visits to Florida on holidays and long weekends to be with Chris, and some very close friends who call Florida home. Twice a year she enjoyed trips to New York City with close friends.  Denise loved spending days with visits from her three beloved grand doggies Charley, Luna and Dax. 

When Denise was at home in CT, she spent time with some of her closest friends from her High School days at Sacred Heart Academy, she fondly referred to as the ‘Fab Four’. They always enjoyed a glass of wine and savoring only the best Italian food CT has to offer.  On quiet days she relaxed on her porch, usually reading or soaking up some sunshine at Milford beach.  Sundays were usually reserved for visits with her lifelong friend Janice and her husband John Cooper.

Visitation will take place on Friday August 22 from 8 am to 10 am at the West Haven Funeral Home.  A graveside service will follow at the mausoleum in All Saints Cemetery.
