Donald Currie, Sr., 85, of Milford, passed away on October 1, 2025. Born in Hamden on July 17, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles Douglas and Dorathea (Everle) Currie. Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gail Rowe Currie; his son, Donald D. (Marilyn) Currie, Jr.; and his cherished grandson, Aiden Currie.
A longtime resident of West Haven, Donald was well known for his deep commitment to the community. For 53 years, he owned and operated his Custom Welding business, where he took immense pride in the quality of his work and customer satisfaction, always placing service above personal gain. Guided by his motto, “no job too small,” Donald continued his work well beyond the typical age of retirement, motivated by a genuine love for his craft and a deep commitment to serving others.
In his leisure time, he found great joy in creating metal sculptures, a reflection of his artistic spirit and skilled craftsmanship. Donald also enjoyed volunteering as an East Haven Trolley conductor. He built lasting partnerships throughout the greater New Haven area and was dedicated to supporting local entrepreneurs.
Donald was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the East Haven American Legion CT Post 89. He was known for his genuine interest in people, often engaging in long and colorful conversations. Civic-minded and creative, he was responsible for making the original Christmas angels displayed on the West Haven Green. Above all, Donald’s greatest joy was his family. He was deeply respected and loved by all who knew him.
Arrangements are entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, October 9, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Haven American Legion CT Post 89, 574 Thompson Avenue, East Haven, CT 06512.
