Donald J. MacMillan, Sr., 89, of West Haven entered into rest on April 7, 2025. For the past 67 years, Don was the treasured husband of Fran Budnick MacMillan. In addition to Fran, he leaves his cherished daughter Diane MacMillan, two sisters Carol Verneau and Claire Donovan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son Donald J. MacMillan, Jr. and brothers Richard MacMillan and Frank McMillan. Born in Dover, New Hampshire, Don was a son of the late Clarence MacMillan and Catherine Roberge.
Don spent most of his life as a West Haven resident. He retired from C. Cowles & Co. after 45 years, as a supervisor. During the Korean War, he proudly served in the US Army and for a time in the National Guard. The entire family travelled extensively on an annual RV trip around the country, with either Don Jr. or Don Sr. at the wheel. Hobbies included completing 1000-piece puzzles, the daily crossword puzzle, casino visits and attending most Buffalo Bills home games. Most important, though, were adventures to see the Carolina Hurricanes play, where his late son was employed.
The hours for visitation will take place on Friday April 11 at the West Haven Funeral Home from 10 am to noon. A prayer service will begin at noon followed by interment, with military honors, in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
