Obituary

Donald “Don” E. Whitney Jr., 54, of East Haven, died on September 11, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital.   Born in New Haven on June 4, 1969, a son of Donald Whitney Sr. and Elizabeth (Shepa) Tripp. In addition to his mother and stepfather Calvin Tripp, Jr., Donald is survived by his loving daughter Chelci Whitney and sons Tyler and Ryan Whitney; brothers Christopher (Cindy) Tripp and Brian (Jennifer) Tripp, Sr.; nephews Brian and Nicholas Tripp and niece Gabriella Tripp; aunt Carolyn Tripp, uncle John (Dana) Tripp, and numerous cousins.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Donald Whitney, Sr.; maternal grandparents Alexander (Bernice) Shepa; paternal grandparents David (Helen) Whitney; step-paternal grandparents Calvin (Rita) Tripp Sr. and other numerous family members. 

Don was a chef by trade and worked in local restaurants until his illness. He loved being the chef at family functions.  He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Miami Dolphins. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council #3300 at Lady of Pompeii Church in East Haven, CT.
