Edward "Eddie" T. Thomas II, a lifelong resident of West Haven, died unexpectedly on 6/19/2021 on his property in South Carolina.
Edward was born on December 27, 1958 to the late Edward T. Thomas I and Antoinette D. Thomas. Eddie graduated from West Haven High School, where he ran track and field. He worked for the Department of Transportation, ultimately achieving the position of Supervisor and later retired from the Bridge Maintenance division. He would always say, “pretty good for a boy from the ghetto!" Eddie also served for several years as a volunteer firefighter for Allingtown. One of Eddie's biggest passions was cooking; he opened "Ed’s Kitchen" on Jones Hill Road, where the locals and out-of-towners came for his home fries. Everyone loved Eddie’s home fries and eggs! This made him very proud. He then opened "Leisure Time Cafe" for a few years for something to keep him busy, as he could never sit still! Eddie was not only an extremely hard worker; he was a family man- devoted husband and loving father.
Eddie loved to go on vacations; he and his “Bride” would take their camper and explore all types of amazing destinations, of which he had a special love for South Carolina. Eddie often flew to Las Vegas, where his friends turned into family. In his earlier years, Eddie was a dance dad; a baseball and softball coach, preferring to always stay busy with the kids! He loved all of his family for their own unique way and from his oldest child to youngest great-grandchild; you could always find them at their “Pappo’s” house… always swimming, playing with ‘Captain’ or the chickens, cooking and baking, running or just lying in the hammock, the grandkids were always there! Of course, the only exception was when it was poker night, as then they had to “disappear for a while”. Eddie loved his poker game and often played weekly with friends.
Eddie will be deeply missed by ALL who knew and loved him. His legacy will carry on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Sunday July 11 from 3 to 5 pm at the funeral home. Remembrances begin at 5 pm.
