Edward M. Zona, Sr., 66,of Kissimmee, Florida, and formerly of East Haven, CT, passed away suddenly on April 2, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Patricia Cohoon Zona, his children Mary Kay (Angelo) Segui, Elizabeth (Anthony) DeCicco, and Edward M. (Stephanie) Zona, Jr., siblings Ralph A. Zona & Sabatino Zona, 8 beloved grandchildren, Izabella & Shea Segui, Theodore, Peyton & Everly DeCicco, Raelynn & McKenna Zona.
Ed began his career as a security guard for Yale-New Haven Hospital, then went to work for the New Haven Police Department as a patrol officer, finally retiring as security for the Federal Court in New Haven. A 1974 graduate of West Haven High School, he married his best friend, Patricia Cohoon in the same year. Ed was involved in many organizations, the New Haven Police Department Emerald Society, Order of Centurions, several Drum & Bugle Corps including the CT Yankees, CT Hurricanes, Park City Pride, CT Alumni, and currently the NY Skyliners. Ed loved to watch his grandchildren, and could always be found at a hockey rink, a ball field or a tennis court, but never at a dance recital. Camping and usually working on his tan, Ed was an active camper at Waters Edge Campground in Lebanon, as well as in Seminole, FL.
Visitation will take place on Friday, April 9, 2021, from 4 – 7PM, at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10 at 11 o’clock, in St. Vincent De Paul Church, St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made towards Ed’s grandchildren’s scholarship fund; checks to be made out to: Patricia Zona mailed to 219 E. Robbins Ave. Newington, CT 06111.
