Eleanor Smith Obituary

Eleanor Smith, of West Haven entered into rest on March 11, 2024, just 9 days after her 87th birthday. For the past 69 years, she was the devoted wife of John Smith.  Dedicated mother of 7 children, Julie (Ed Sheehan) Laub, David (Jennifer) Smith, Cheryl (Scott) Cameron, Jeffrey (Carrie) Smith, Bonnie (the late Jim Goldsmith), Scott (Susan) Smith and Elizabeth Dias.  Cherished grandmother of Hailey and Alyssa Dias, Stacey Ciccosanti, Lisa McCaskill, Joshua, Christopher, Jason and Billy Cameron, Kevin, Johnathan, Nicholas and the late Ryan Smith, Laney and Hayden Smith, Meredith Bernklau, Ed Laub, David and Daniel Smith and Brandon Borges.  She also leaves 18 great grandchildren; her former son-in-law Tony Dias and her fur baby, Baby Girl.  In addition to her grandson Ryan, Eleanor was predeceased by her sister Irene Lyons and brother Bill Obersteadt.

Not only did Eleanor raise 7 children, she worked as a supervisor in several West Haven nursing homes.  Cooking, camping and enjoying the sunshine with her family were among her favorite past times. Her family brought her the most joy.  Everything she did, she did for them.  She will be sorely missed.

Visitation will take place on Friday March 15, 2024 from 10 to noon at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
