Elizabeth (Betty) Cole of West Haven passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at the age of 99. She was born on June 19,1926, to Lester and Elizabeth (Lunden) Wilson in Readington, New Jersey. Betty graduated from Flemington High School in 1945, then worked as a secretary for the Army Corp of Engineers in Belle Mead, NJ, until her marriage to George Cole Jr. of Pleasant Run, NJ in 1947. They were long-time residents of Lebanon Borough, NJ where they raised their family. Daughters Sandra Cole and Shirley Cole sadly died as young children.
After husband George’s sudden death in 1992, Betty moved to West Haven, Connecticut to live with daughter Barbara and husband Dan Cheung, and their sons Jeff and Marc. She loved being a “snowbird” spending winters with daughter Pat and husband Rick Cox and sons Steven and Stuart, in Cooper City, Florida. Both Steven and Jeff married Stephanies, resulting in four great-grandchildren: Brielle and Colton Cox, and Natalie and Jeff Cheung Jr.
Betty dedicated her life to being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She gave generously of herself to help anyone in need. You could always count on her for a laugh or kind word. She leaves a legacy of wisdom, humor, and love.
She is survived by her brother Lester Wilson and wife Eleanor of Flemington, NJ. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was predeceased by sisters Florence Wilson, Mabel Moscetti and Mildred Stupor.
Arrangements were entrusted to the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. All services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, stjude.org, or to Connecticut Hospice, hospice.com.
