Ellen M. Gilson, a lifelong resident of New Haven, entered into eternal rest on August 6, 2025. One of seven children born to the late John H. and Margaret Cleary Gilson, she was born on January 16, 1937. Her siblings include Carol Humble, Margaret (Alan) Curtis and the late John, James, Robert and Thomas Gilson. In addition to her sisters, Ellen is survived by thirteen Gilson nieces and nephews: her godson Richard R. Gilson and John, Maureen, Catherine, Francis, James, David, Thomas, Kelly, Michael, Brian, Robert and Lisa.
An employee for 32 years at the Knights of Columbus headquarters, Ellen was employed in the insurance department. For many years, she served as the union representative. She was a longtime and faithful communicant of St. Joseph Church in New Haven.
Visitation will take place on Friday August 15 from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. On Saturday morning a Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church of Blessed Michael McGivney Parish, 129 Edwards St., New Haven at 10 o’clock. (The funeral home will not be in attendance at the Mass). Interment will be private.
