Florence “Toots” Palermo, of West Haven, died on February 10, 2026 – just two days after her 102nd birthday. Born in Port Chester, NY on February 8, 1924, a daughter of the late Roman H.E. and Mabel E. Bellwood Jasinski. Survived by her cherished daughter Linda Siegert (Paul) Blackman; loving son Jon J. Palermo; grandchildren Carri (Kyle) Brellis, Nicole (Scott) Ohlson, David (Heika) Siegert, and Melanie (Donny) Wallis; great-grandchildren Amanda and Aiden Ohlson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Toots was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 69 years, Nicholas Palermo, and sisters Arline Downey (George) and Evelyn M. Schoeller (George).
Toots lived in Newtown for five years before moving to West Haven, where she developed strong roots and lasting friendships in her chosen community. She attended Thompson School and West Haven High School, maintaining lifelong friendships with a group of nine ladies known as the Wednesday Club Girls, who met weekly until all their deaths. Before marrying her childhood sweetheart Nicholas and raising their family, she was an acrobatic dancer who entertained all around the state of Connecticut (as “Baby Toots”). She lived most of her life in West Haven and wintered in Daytona Beach for several years. Nick and Toots traveled all over the US and many countries with friends. She loved to cook and crochet, and Toots was a lifelong caregiver of her beloved Nick.
Arrangements were entrusted to the West Haven Funeral at the Green. A graveside service will be held on Saturday morning, March 7, 2026, at 10 o’clock in Oak Grove Cemetery. There are no other services. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
