Frank Christopher Centi, a long time resident of West Haven, Connecticut passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024 from natural causes. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Lou Centi, who died in 2017 after she underwent a long battle with cancer. He was 87.
Born in New Haven, he was the son of Francis Centi a mason and Jennie Pacelli Centi. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Notre Dame high School where he lettered in Football and Baseball. Frank later married the love of his life, Mary Lou Tatta. Starting a career in trucking with UPS, the young couple moved to West Haven where they started their family with three wonderful children, Traci Ann, April Catherine, and Brian Francis. He and Mary Lou were extremely attentive parents making sure all of their children had the best of educations. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he spent many an afternoon rooting for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Their dog “Joe” was named after Joe DiMaggio. He was also an expert mason and made many stone and brick outdoor sculptures for family and friends. A communicant of St. John Vianney Church, he regularly attended Mass especially after Mary Lou passed away.
His sense of humor and optimism will be greatly missed by his surviving family members including daughter Traci Centi Bands and husband Dr. Roy E. Bands, Jr of Annapolis, Maryland, daughter April Centi Garritta and husband Salvatore Garrita of East Haven, Connecticut, granddaughter Dr. Tenley Christa Bands and her husband Adam Blewett of Denver, Colorado, and Roy E. Bands III of Curitiba, Brazil. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son Brian Francis Centi in 2008, and brothers Ascanio Centi and Andrew Centi.
Services to include visitation at West Haven Funeral Home at 662 Savin Ave, West Haven, CT 06516 on Thursday, August 15,2024 from 4-7 pm. On Friday morning, August 16,2024 the procession will leave the funeral home at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church, St. John XXIII Parish at 300 Captain Thomas Blvd, West Haven, CT 06510 at 9:30am. Entombment will follow in the St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Office of Development, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508.
