Gail McHugh Egan, age 75, of West Haven passed away suddenly at home on Saturday August 31, 2024. For 20 years, she was the wife of the late Jack Egan. Gail was born in New Haven on February 22, 1949, daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy Farrell McHugh. She is survived by her brother Lawrence McHugh of Cheshire and her sister Cheryl (Michael) Violano of West Haven, her nieces and nephews, Gretchen (Dave) Lapierre, Jennifer (John) Ranciato, Richard McHugh, Karen (Joe) Quinn, Stefanie Beauvais, Larry McHugh and Steven (Michelle) Harris, as well as many great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she is also predeceased by her brother Richard McHugh and sister-in-law Patricia McHugh.
Gail graduated from West Haven High School and then became a member of the first graduating Nursing Class of Quinnipiac College. For 30 years, she was employed as an occupational nurse with BIC Corporation. She was an active member of the West Haven Irish American Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus-Columbian Ladies.
Gail loved traveling, taking cruises, attending Yale Football games, and hosting the annual “McHugh” Christmas Party.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 8:30-10am at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Her funeral procession will then leave the funeral home at 10am for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Vianney Church, St. John XXIII Parish at 10:30am. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Gail was passionate about dogs, so in lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the West Haven Animal Shelter.
