Gail Marie Gelinas Nixon, of Orange passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024. She was born in 1936 in Weymouth MA to the late George Omer Gelinas and Gertrude Stanley Gelinas and grew up in Madison. Gail attended Lasell Junior College and worked as a Medical Technologist at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. It was there that she met her beloved husband of 53 years, James T. Nixon MD.
Gail gave generously of her time and energy in service to the community. She served on the St Raphael's Auxiliary Board of Directors Executive Committee as well as being administrative volunteer with the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center. An avid gardener and floral designer, Gail was a member of the Garden Club of Orange for 60 years. She brought those skills to her work on the Holy Infant Altar Flower Committee, as well as the Town of Orange Tree Committee. Her decades of volunteer work were recognized by the community when she received the Living Treasure award. Gail was a popular hostess and a true chef de cuisine. She was a consummate and much sought after (but not always great) bridge player.
Gail is survived by her sons, Jonathan and Jared Nixon, her grandson Benjamin Nixon and his wife, Courtney, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband James, she is predeceased by her brothers George, Gareth and Gerard.
On Friday October 4, 2024, friends may visit with the family in Holy Infant Church beginning at 9:30, and all are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30. Interment will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Orange Garden Club or to the Orange Tree Committee.
