Geraldine "Gerry" Slater

Geraldine "Gerry" Slater, of Milford passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, at the age of 95. She was born in Milford on January 5, 1929, a daughter of the late William and Mildred Burke. Gerry was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Henry "Red" Slater; son Donald Slater; and brother Donald Burke. She is survived by her son William (Karen) Slater; granddaughter Stacy (Rick) Fontana; grandson, Bill (Tracie) Slater; daughter-in-law Karla Slater; as well as her three great-grandchildren Erika, Lucas, and Sam.

Throughout her life, Gerry demonstrated remarkable dedication and talent. She took great pride in her work at Waterbury Lock Company, where she was known as the fastest lock packer. Later, she contributed her skills and work ethic as a bookkeeper at ShopRite for twenty years, from where she ultimately retired.

Outside of work, Gerry was known for her vibrant spirit and varied interests. She had a particular love for Halloween, always embracing the holiday with enthusiasm and creativity. Gerry delighted in knitting beautiful sweaters for friends and family, always enjoyed outdoor adventures, and was passionate about her garden, which she meticulously tended and took great pride in. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family, whose presence and love were central to her life.

A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gerry’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends alike. Gerry's kindness, dedication, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed, while her memory will live on through the many lives she touched, and the legacy of love and joy she leaves behind.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 25 from 3 pm to 5pm at West Haven Funeral Home to celebrate Gerry’s remarkable life and legacy. Interment will remain private.

May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave during her lifetime.
