Gerard V (Jerry) Canadeo, 100, of West Haven passed away on May 26, 2021. For 59 years, he was the loving husband of Madelyn Orio Canadeo until her passing in 2003. Born in Flushing New York on July 9th, 1920, the son of the late Vincent and Clementine (Socca) Canadeo, Jerry is survived by his devoted daughter Melanie Canadeo and his loving sister Josephine Orio both of West Haven and many generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Midge, Jerry was predeceased by his sons Gerard and Jeffrey, sisters Theresa Kruger and Marie DeNavarro.
Prior to retirement, Jerry worked for the State of Connecticut as Superintendent of Tolls for 30 years and later at Bank of America as head teller. As a proud patron of the West Haven Lions Club for over 50 years, Jerry received many awards for his dedicated service. An active member of Our Lady of Victory Church, he tirelessly immersed himself in many of the parish activities as an usher, bingo caller and carnival worker. Jerry enjoyed family gatherings, walking the West Haven Boardwalk, riding his bicycle and maintaining a vigorous exercise routine, which he kept up well into his nineties.
A special note of gratitude to Compassus-Hospice as the entire staff was so caring and supportive, always there to help and comfort him. A heartfelt thank you to Rosa, Renee, Lisa, Chaplain Carolyn, you are the best! Also, thank you to Arden House for their support and excellent care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11 o’clock in Our Lady of Victory Church (formerly St. John Vianney Church). Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum, St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassus Hospice, 612 Wheelers Farm Rd., #103, Milford, CT. 06461.
