Harold G. “Spud” Karn, age 90, of Woodbridge passed away on July 1, 2024, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, West Haven. He was the loving husband of Virginia Judge Karn for over 63 years. Harold was born in West Haven, son of the late George and Beatrice Slater Karn. He lived in West Haven most of his life, until moving his family to Woodbridge. In addition to his wife, he was the beloved father to his daughters, Ellen (Jim) Karn-Brown of Milford and Lesli Karn of Woodbridge, his grandchildren, Matthew Brown and Taira Stronach, his great grandson Wes, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings Donald Karn and Beverly Karn Conlan.
Harold proudly served in the US Army. In his professional career, he was a signal maintainer for 50 years for Conrail and Metro North. He was a well-respected colleague and friend. Spud was a true family man who would do anything for his family and friends. He was someone always ready to lend a helping hand, sage advice and his expertise. After retirement, Harold and his wife enjoyed traveling all over the US in their motor home. One of their most memorable trips was to Alaska, where they braved the artic circle. He was a true animal lover, and was especially fond of horses and dogs. He moved his family to Woodbridge so that they could have horses, which was in support of his daughter’s horseback riding passion.
Visitation will be held on SUNDAY JULY 14th from 3-6pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Military Honors will be rendered at 6pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harold's name to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
