James T. O’Connor, 52, of North Haven died on June 23, 2024 after a long illness. Known to everyone as Jim, he was born in New Haven on June 5, 1972 to Patricia O’Connor and the late Thomas M. O’Connor. Jim is survived by his stepdaughter Alexandra Martin, son-in-law Matt (Heather) Martin, granddaughters Kaylee and Emily, his brother Brian (Mercedes) O’Connor, brothers-in-law David McCarthy and Joseph McCarthy, nieces Rachael, Morgan, and Angelina, his aunts and uncle Sue & Bill Burr, Joan O’Connor, Eileen Massa, Kathleen Seewald, Roseann Budd, Bernadette Harbour, his fur baby Toby, and many other family members and friends, too numerous to list. In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen McCarthy O'Connor and his uncle James O’Connor.
Jim was an avid fan and follower of the Grateful Dead and the New York Yankees as well as the UConn Huskies. He was generous to a fault, and he’d give his last dollar and the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Jim even gave his new leather jacket to a homeless man who had no winter coat. He was also the life of the party, always with an impish grin on his face and a trick up his sleeve. He especially got a big kick out of lovingly testing his mom.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses for providing excellent care for Jim during his stay in the MICU of Yale-New Haven Hospital. The nursing staff are the most empathetic. He will be deeply missed by his family and his abundance of friends.
Friends may visit Friday June 28, 2024 from 4 to 7 pm at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Interment will be private.
