JoAnn Luttringer Glagowski, 97, of West Haven, CT, was carried peacefully by the angels to be reunited with her beloved husband, Horst, on October 5, 2023, after a brief illness at Apple Rehab, West Haven. JoAnn was born in Dayton, Ohio, on December 24, 1925, and graduated from Fairview High School. She was the oldest of four daughters of Mildred and Eugene Luttringer.
She met her dearest love at National Cash Register in Dayton where they both worked. Horst asked JoAnn for a date, and she cheekily responded by stamping his hand with a date stamp! They were married for 68 devoted years. During their marriage, the couple lived in several states including Ohio, Georgia, New Jersey, South Carolina, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and finally Whitinsville, Massachusetts, at Cotton Mill Apartments.
JoAnn enjoyed being a homemaker to her three rambunctious boys. She was a prolific seamstress, a gardener on their Ohio farm, and a talented baker. She was especially known for her famous sour cream twists which many family members tried to duplicate, but no one ever came close to Grandma's! She also loved her Bridge Club gatherings, reading, her iPad games, plus connecting on Facebook with family and grandkids. Yes, up to the age of 97!
JoAnn spent the last eight years near family at Baybrook Arms, West Haven, enjoying her many friends, coffee hours, cards, and conversations with the wonderful people there. She had a cozy apartment where she relaxed and entertained family, even hosting noisy Christmas morning gift exchanges! She delighted in each family gathering she attended, especially while watching the antics of the youngest ones! JoAnn was a beautiful lady inside and out, sweet and soft spoken, and always smiling. She was rarely ruffled by anything and made you feel extremely special when you were with her. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but most especially by those who called her our matriarch, Mom, sister, aunt, and her best title, Grandma Jo.
JoAnn was predeceased by her husband Horst and her sister Carole Ann Evans. She is survived by her sisters, Donna Garmon and Glenna Duffey, many nieces and nephews, her three sons Terry (Linda) Glagowski, Jack (Alicia) Glagowski, Don (Kathryn) Glagowski, her beloved grandchildren: Katherine (Steve) Martinka, Susanne (Corey) Fyfe, Jenifer Glagowski (Konrad Dobkowski), Eric (Elizabeth) Glagowski, Jeffrey (Renee Bacon) Glagowski, Erika Glagowski, Peter Glagowski, and Noah Malgeri. JoAnn was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Ryan and Dawson Martinka, Riley Fyfe, Jack W. Glagowski, and Giacomo Malgeri.
JoAnn was a generous and loving soul. She supported many causes, including veterans. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to Fisher House or WHEAT, both of West Haven. Services are private and ashes will be reunited in Ohio with JoAnn's beloved husband at Dayton National Cemetery.
