Joanne Flynn Obituary

Joanne Q. Flynn, 90, of West Haven, daughter of the late Angelo and Angela Quaini, entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2026.  She was predeceased by her devoted and loving husband, Ronald J. Flynn.  Joanne’s family includes her two beloved sons Kevin M. Flynn and Thomas J. (Darlene) Flynn; four grandchildren Shannon Elizabeth Flynn, Jennifer Ann (James) Hudson, Patrick Ronald Flynn and Sarah Catherine Flynn and a great granddaughter MacKenzie Grace Hudson; all of whom she loved immeasurably. She is also survived by her two dear sisters Wilhelmina Pandolfi and Marianne Tarantino as well as many nieces, nephews and friends far and wide. She was predeceased by her sister, the late Agnes O’Connor.

A 1956 graduate of St. Raphael’s School of Nursing, Joanne's true life passion was nursing. She worked on the cardiac surgical unit at the Hospital of St. Raphael in room 14 as an open heart nurse where many of her colleagues would someday become close friends. Upon retirement, when most people would be home resting, Joanne continued her life’s passion as a substitute school nurse in both the Amity and West Haven School Systems.  Somehow, between devoting time to family and continuing to work, she found time to volunteer at homeless shelters and to serve meals at the First Congregational Church Soup Kitchen in West Haven.  Her caring nature extended to the court system where she worked as a guardian ad litem advocating for the best interests of children.

When Joanne was not working, she could be found tending to her beautiful garden or traveling the world. She loved to visit her family in Italy. Ever the adventurer, Joanne still found herself bored, and searched for yet another hobby- assisting on a lobster boat; accompanying a family friend hauling lobster traps and even banding lobsters.

Those who were lucky enough to know Joanne were blessed. While she will be missed immensely by those who loved her, she led by example, showing her family how to live life to its fullest extent.

The hours for visitation will take place on Monday June 15, 2026 from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home.  On Tuesday morning the procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Church, St. John XXIII parish at 10 o’clock.  Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Camp Rising Sun, PO Box 472, Branford, CT. 06405.
