John Benevento Obituary

John Benevento, 89, of North Haven, died on September 22, 2021.  Born in New Haven on June 15, 1932, a son to the late Enrico and Vicenza (Bassi) Benevento.  Survived by his loving wife of sixteen years, Antoinette (Gravante) Benevento; stepchildren Bernadette (Richard) Prescott of Middletown, Stephen (Krisanna) Viglione Jr. of East Haven, and Joyce (David) Berardis of Deep River; step-grandchildren Brianna and Stephen (Elissa) Viglione III, Jessica and Benjamin Urbasik, as well as David, Michael, and Kimberly Berardis.  John is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.  John was predeceased by his son John A. Benevento; sisters Frances Gaetano, Evelyn Savinelli, Eleanor DeMarco, and Josephine DePino; and brothers Louis, Harry, and Anthony Benevento.

To John, there was no such thing as ‘step-family’; rather, he considered his loving relatives’ “my family”, and took great pleasure in spending his time with them.  A simple man, the ‘salt of the earth’ kind, his most favored pastimes were spent fishing, completing puzzles, and visiting Mohegan Sun casino.  John retired from his long and enjoyable career of transportation with the Teamsters Union, 443.  He and Antoinette began extensive travels around the world, ultimately spending one month abroad as they enjoyed their new life together.  John held a passionate adoration for animals, particularly dogs and horses- owning both at various points of his life.  He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.

Services have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home on the Green.  Calling hours will take place on Monday, September 27th, from 8:30 to 10am, at the funeral home.
