John H. (Jr.) Smith

John is survived by his sister, Mary-Ellen Bouchard, his niece Tina Conte Bronson, his nephews James Conte, Calvin Conte, and Neil Smith, his son Christopher Smith, his daughter Courtney Smith, and his ex-wife Suzanne Surato.

He was predeceased by his mother Emma, father John, Sr., his sister Louise, and his brother.

John was a high school swimmer for Wilbur Cross High School and the Boys Club of New Haven. After attending business school for a short time, he honorably served in Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corps. John worked in the street department of Southern Connecticut Gas Company from 1968 until his retirement in 2015. He also had his own cleaning business for many years.

John was involved with a number of adult softball leagues with both coworkers and friends. He loved supporting his children during their swimming careers and actively supported the West Haven Wizards Swim Team however he could. He was a big supporter of Notre Dame High School of West Haven and was often one of the loudest voices in the stands at hockey and football games and swim meets. Throughout his life, John's pride in his military service was evident to all who knew him and he often donated to a number of veterans and military organizations.
