John C. “Johnniewhite” White, 74, of Myrtle Beach and West Haven, always a “Westie” at heart, passed away on August 16 at his home in Myrtle Beach amongst all that he loved. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sally and a host of great friends including his cherished goddaughter, Melissa Martin.
A 1966 graduate of West Haven High School, John played three sports, hockey all four years, baseball as a junior and soccer during his junior and senior years. He served as a youth baseball and hockey coach, something he enjoyed immensely. He was invited by the NY Rangers to try out for the position of goalie. An employee of the US Postal Service for 40 years, John retired in 2009. He was predeceased by his parents Howard and Helen White, sisters Elena Wendland and Carolyn Perry and last but not least, his four-legged kids, Toto, Maggie, Sparky, Rocky, Lillie and Tony.
To know John was to love him, with his quick wit and great laugh. To honor John’s lust for life, a celebration of it will be held at Randall’s on Sunday August 27 from 1 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Haven Penalty Box Club, c/o Michelle Bernardi, 120 Lake St., West Haven, CT. 06516.
