Joseph A. Conzo Sr., 89, of West Haven, passed away on July 26, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Joe was the husband of Julia “Judy” Conzo and was a lifelong resident of West Haven. Born May 13, 1935, a son of the late Anthony and Raphael Conzo. He graduated from West Haven High School in 1953. After fulfilling his military commitment, he returned to marry the love of his life, Judy Schmitt. They enjoyed 66 years of married life, and together they raised two sons, John and Joseph Jr. In 1961 Joe joined the West Haven Police Department where he worked for the next 33 years, retiring in 1993 with the rank of lieutenant.
In retirement he enjoyed travelling, visiting many counties with his wife. A lifelong Yankee fan, he enjoyed going to the games with his sons every year. He served as a coach for 25 years as a founding member of the West Haven Fundamental Basketball League. He was also an avid fan of the UCONN Women’s Basketball team who he enjoyed watching for many years. In addition to his wife Judy, he is survived by his two sons: John (Sylvia) of West Haven and Joseph Jr. (Brenda) of Putnam. Joe will be fondly remembered as a loving and caring husband and father who will be missed by all.
Arrangements were entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 1st, from 4 until 7 o'clock. On Friday August 2nd, his procession will depart the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., St. Agnes Church of Precious Blood Parish, Milford. Entombment with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum, West Haven.
