Joseph Thomas Godlewski, 89, of West Haven, passed away at his residence on July 11, 2024. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1935, a son of the late Stanley and Alberta Baloga Godlewski.
Joe is survived by his loving daughters Theresa and Mary Ann Godlewski, both of Connecticut; sisters Sr. Christopher Godlewski of Pennsylvania, Carole MacPhee of Maryland, and Claire Godlewski of Pennsylvania; brothers Thomas (Susan) Godlewski of Wisconsin, James Godlewski of Pennsylvania, and Stanley (Stazey) Godlewski of Maryland; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara DeChello Godlewski and his sister Theresa Godlewski of Pennsylvania.
Joe dedicated 48 years of his life to Stop and Shop Grocery, where he excelled in management within the meat department. His commitment extended to serving on the Local 371 Union Executive Board for many years. Outside of work, Joe cherished his time outdoors as an avid hunter and enthusiast of lake fishing. In retirement from 2004 onwards, he discovered a passion for cooking, particularly renowned for his homemade sausage.
Those who knew Joe will remember him as outgoing and kind-hearted, always willing to help others unconditionally. He was a hardworking and humble man, finding joy in life's simple pleasures. His legacy lives on through the memories he created with family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 19th from 4 to 7 o’clock at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 o’clock, in St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish, West Haven. Interment will remain private.
