Josephine Branchini Obituary

Josephine Branchini passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023. She was born on July 10, 1925, the daughter of the late Nerina and Augusto Landini, and was a lifelong resident of West Haven. Josephine was predeceased by her husband Bruce to whom she was married for sixty-nine years. She is survived by daughter Anne Townsend and her husband Larry, son Bruce and his wife Ann, granddaughters and their husbands, Lauren Branchini (Dr.Zachary Masi), Ariana Branchini (Mathew Lytle), Lindsay Bonaldo (James), great-granddaughter Noemi Lytle, great-grandsons Raylan and Jackson Bonaldo, sister Joan Puglia and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Louis Landini and his wife Dorothy. Before she was married, Josephine worked as a key punch operator. She also worked side by side with her mother as an accomplished pasta maker for the Three Sisters Caterers, her mother’s business. Later in life, she became a ward clerk for the stroke and epilepsy unit of the Veterans Hospital in West Haven, a position she truly loved.  While working at the hospital, her generosity of spirit was evident in her unsolicited acts of kindness shown to patients and their families.

Josephine had an uncanny ability to appreciate and find happiness in her daily activities.  She found great pleasure in reading novels, preparing meals for her family, and knitting prayer shawls for St. Raphael Hospital. She was a fan of the Yankees, even attending a sold-out game of the 1947 World Series. Josephine’s faith was as strong as her love of family, and no one would ever challenge either. The family would like to thank the staff of Laurel Woods, especially Marie and Steve, who treated her with great kindness and appreciated her sense of humor.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday morning April 25 from 8 to 9:30 at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Branford at 10 o’clock.  Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher House of West Haven, (135F), Attn. Amanda Salthouse, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT, 06516.
