Josephine Orio

Josephine Orio of West Haven, CT passed away on November 13, 2021.  She was born in Flushing, New York on January 31, 1930, to parents Vincenzo and Clementine (Socca) Canadeo.  She is survived by her sons David and Wayne, daughter-in-law and daughter-in-heart Linda, and many loving nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Arthur Orio, sisters Marie DeNavarro and Theresa Kruger, and her brother Gerard Canadeo. 

Josephine began her working career at New York University prior to settling in West Haven upon her marriage.  She was employed by Harloc Products for 25 years and finished her working career at Yale University’s Law School at age 74 after devoting 15 years as an administrative assistant to numerous Law School professors.  She then devoted many hours as a volunteer at Milford Hospital.  She also enjoyed participating in exercise classes at the West Haven Senior Center until the pandemic.  She will be remembered by her friends and coworkers as an intelligent and considerate person who saw the positive in everyone.  Josephine’s family will remember her unwavering devotion to them and unselfish concern for their happiness. 

The family wishes to thank Lisa, her aide for the past three years, who became an important part of the family with her love and devotion to Josephine.  She made her last years meaningful, productive, and joyful.

The hours for visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Lawrence Church at 10am.  Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Mausoleum.  To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.westhavenfuneral.com.
