Josephine “Josie” Benoit Tracanna, 93, of West Haven, passed away on May 4, 2024, with her family by her side. Born in New Haven on October 2, 1930, a daughter of the late Edward and Carmel Celone Benoit. Survived by her beloved husband, John Pasqual Tracanna; loving children John (Dena) Tracanna of San Diego, CA, and JoAnn (Dan) Paoletti of Milford; grandchildren Jennifer (David) Conelias of Woodbridge, Garrett Tracanna and Cameron (Ashley) Tracanna of San Diego, CA; three great-grandchildren, Ava Conelias, Julia Conelias, and Jameson Tracanna; as well as brother Edward (Grace) Benoit of East Haven. Additionally preceded in death by sisters Angie Grillo, Mary Calandro, and Carmel Darr, as well as brother Anthony Benoit.
Josie lived most of her life in West Haven, New Haven, and Bethany, CT. Her career began with the U.S. Motors shipping department, she later joined her husband as proprietors of the Colonial Meat Market. Family and hospitality were of high importance to Josie, she enjoyed being in her kitchen cooking, baking, and visiting with company to share in her goodies. Josie enjoyed being active and kept in shape through her love of dancing and gardening. Always one who preferred being on-the-go, Josie belonged to various social organizations, including the Eagle Club, the Italian American Club, the Zandris, and the Jolly Timers. She delighted in the years spent traveling with her husband John, various family members, and friends. Among her favorite places to visit were Italy, Spain, Hawaii, Aruba, Nassau, Canada, as well as the many visits to California, whereby she cherished the time spent with her son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons. Josie will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Arrangements were entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home on the Green. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 8th, at ten o’clock, in St. Louis Church of West Haven. Attendees are asked to meet directly at church. Interment will immediately follow in All Saints Cemetery.
