Laura Spoldi Obituary

Laura Jean (Sorterup) Spoldi, 62, of Shelton, CT, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Steven E Spoldi. Laura was born August 20, 1963, in Middletown, CT, the daughter of Gerald Sorterup and Phyllis Clark.

Laura attended the University of Connecticut where she met her husband, Steven. She had a lengthy career spanning over 40 years as a software engineer, working for various companies including Perkin Elmer, Transwitch, and eventually Technology Service Corporation for the last 22 years. She was a proud mentor of the Shelton High School First Robotics Competition (FRC) team 230, where she was the lead software engineering mentor for 13 years. She enjoyed reading and traveling, going on various cruises with her husband, family, and friends. She had many creative hobbies including baking, pottery, sign making, and fused glass.

Laura will be deeply missed by her loving family. In addition to her loving husband of 38 years, she is survived by daughter Emily (William) Soss of Oxford; son Peter (Julie) Spoldi of Beacon Falls; and sisters Christie (Michael) Gemme of South Windsor and Sheryl Sorterup of Fort Mitchell, KY;

Services for Laura will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 10AM to 1PM at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Interment will be private.
