Lorraine Boyle Obituary

Lorraine Boyle, 82, of New Haven, died peacefully on November 18, 2022, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 26, 1940, the eldest daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Sezdek) Sampara. She was the devoted mother of Wendy (John) McGeehan of Philadelphia and Tenants Harbor, ME, Hollie (Will) Schwartz of Chevy Chase, MD, and Candace (Matt Whalen) Boyle of Yarmouth Port, MA. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Bridget (Matthew Habermann) McGeehan, Grace (Tyler) Schlegel, Bennett and Lee Schwartz, Sigourney (Doug Houston) Wheway, Aly and Joseph Wheway; as well as her great-grandchildren, Greyson Sandella and Emma Schlegel. She was the loving sister of Alexis Hickerson of Branford, and John (Karen) Sampara of North Haven. She is predeceased by her brother, Alexander Sampara and his wife Patricia, her brother-in-law Robert Hickerson; and her former husband, Stephen Boyle.

Lorraine was a proud graduate of Wilbur Cross High School and the Boston School of Dental Nursing. She was extremely proud of her Ukrainian heritage and brought these traditions into all her celebrations.  She raised her family in Orange, CT and later moved to Branford, St. Thomas USVI, Florida, and Maryland before returning to New Haven.

Lorraine worked as a| Dental Assistant and later for St. Raphael Hospital. She loved to entertain and was famous for her fabulous summer family picnics, Christmas Eve celebrations, and numerous theme parties. She enjoyed traveling, especially to warm, sunny places, and was an avid tennis player.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov 29th, from 9:30 – 11:30, upon which time her procession will depart the funeral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George Street. Interment will be private.
