Madelyne Klump Mansfield, 86, of West Haven entered into rest on April 12, 2025.
She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Mansfield, Jr. and daughter of the late Howard C. and Elizabeth MacArthur Klump. Madelyne’s loving family includes her children Elizabeth (John) Armstrong and Thomas E. (Laurie) Mansfield III; four adored grandchildren Shannon (Brendon) LaChance, John Joseph (Carmela) Armstrong, Thomas E. Mansfield IV and Katelyn Mansfield; and nine cherished great grandchildren Jacob and Ava Gonzalez, John III, Remington and Samuel Armstrong, Cora and Charlotte Mansfield, and Haley and Harrison LaChance. Her constant companions, Clyde and Sweet Pea, to name two of her five dogs, provided years of support and devotion.
An active member of the West Haven community for many years, Madelyne enjoyed volunteering for the Savin Rock Museum and the West Haven Adult Day Care Auxiliary. As a lifelong member of the Republican party, she devoted hours to fundraising for them, and was their Sunshine Club leader. Due to her fondness for children, Madelyne often fostered infants prior to their adoption. For 15 years, she worked at the Nursery by the Sea and later at West Haven High School as an administrator for the Adult Education program. She served as a Justice of the Peace and performed countless weddings, not only for her grandchildren but also for the grandchildren of her dearest friends. She always flew the American flag at her home, a symbol of her deep patriotism. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of West Haven since childhood. Madelyne’s hobbies were many, including clothes shopping, party planning, social gatherings, country line dancing, and entertaining. Nothing provided more joy than spending time with her family and close friends. They completed her!
Arrangements are entrusted to the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. On Saturday, April 26, a memorial service will take place at the First Congregational Church of West Haven at 10 o’clock. The interment of Madelyne’s cremains will take place privately in Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Haven Animal Shelter, 7 Collis Street, West Haven.
