Marilyn Dahlgard Obituary

Marilyn S. Dahlgard, 90, formerly of West Haven, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021, in Cumming, GA.  Born in West Haven on July 13, 1931, a daughter of the late Harold A. and Nell (Tyler) Smith.  Survived by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, James Dahlgard; son James Jr.; daughters Kyle D. Pfahl and Kirsten D. Farquharson; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marilyn, better known as ‘Mimi’ for most of her life, was very blessed with a loving family.  She married her best friend and fellow classmate of West Haven, James “Jimmy Love” in 1953, after sledding down a hill on Magnolia Avenue on February 10, 1947.  It was in that moment they fell madly for one another; their love story only grew over the next 70 years. Together with patience, love, and humor they raised their growing family in West Haven.  An adored wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend- Mimi will be remembered for her loving nature, effervescence for life, creative mind, and of course, the notorious (occasional) endearing stubbornness.  She harnessed the unique ability to make everyone feel like family by assigning nicknames to one-and-all.  Regardless of the circumstance, one would leave her company with a brilliant story of their time together.   Another calling card was Mimi’s sense of dress, always remaining one-step ahead of the fashion curve, and never afraid to express her sense of self.  She was long noted for her stylish ways, the very definition of chic.  She will remain greatly missed by her entire family, as well as those who knew her during her incredible 90 years of life.  A toast to Mimi:

A life well lived is a precious gift

Of hope and strength and grace,

From someone who has made our world

A brighter, better place

It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad

With smiles and sometimes tears,

With friendships formed and good times shared

And laughter through the years.

A life well lived is a legacy

Of joy and pride and pleasure,

A living, lasting memory

Our grateful hearts will treasure.
