Marva Santos Obituary

Marva Santos, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt passed away peacefully leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.  Born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama to the late Minnie and George Watson.  Marva relocated to Connecticut in 1968 to join her family, where she would spend the rest of her life.  She was employed for 23 years by AT&T before transitioning to the State of Connecticut’s Department of Social Services, where she served as an Eligibility Specialist for 20 years, retiring in 2016.  Even after retirement, her strong work ethic led her to work for Kohl’s for an additional four years.  In July 1977, Marva married the love of her life, Antonio P. Santos.  Together they shared 47 years of love, laughter, music, and happiness.

Marva was a dedicated member of Saint Martin de Porres Church in New Haven, where she joined in 1977.  She found joy in gardening, cooking, traveling, and casino outings, but her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her (large) family and friends.

Marva was predeceased by her sisters, Flora Ligon and Minnie Maultsby, and her brothers, Willie, Preston, John, and Jimmy Watson.  She is survived by her son, Luis Santos; four grandchildren; two godchildren; two sisters, Goldie Jones and Barbara Watson; and one brother, Alvin Watson.  She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who will forever hold her memory dear.  Marva’s warmth, wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25 in the St. Martin de Porres Church from 9 to 11 o’clock.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 11 o’clock, followed by Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven.
