Mary Martin Coffey, 92, of West Haven, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bear River, Nova Scotia on July 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Harriet Martin. She was pre-deceased by William, her loving husband of 55 years. She is survived by her sons John and his wife Mary of Northampton, MA, Richard and his wife Nancy of Shelton, CT, and daughter Maureen of Derby, CT; her grandchildren Brendan, Michael, Kate, Tricia, and Caroline; as well as her great-grandchildren Ava, Hailey, Dylan, Lily, Roberto, and Emilia.
After several years as a caring homemaker, Mary graduated from Sacred Heart University and taught Social Studies for fourteen years at Amity Regional Junior High in Bethany. She retired to the shore in 1987, volunteering as the Librarian at Our Lady of Victory School. She received the Viking award for her thirty-seven years of service. Mary traveled the world with her husband but was happiest with family at home. Mary was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory in West Haven.
The family would like to thank the staff of Always Caring of CT and Yale New Haven Health Home Care Plus for their outstanding care during Mary’s last months.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 9th, from four to seven o’clock. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church, 300 Captain Thomas Boulevard, on Monday, October 10th, at 11 o’clock. Attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make donations in her memory to Our Lady of Victory Church or the Griffin Hospital Development Fund.
