Mary (Keyes) DeChello

Mary DeChello, age 82, of West Haven passed away on June 16, 2024.  For 62 years, she was the loving wife of John DeChello.  Mary was born in New Haven, daughter of the late George and Mary Gilmartin Keyes.  In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her children, John (Gina Funaro) DeChello of Hamden, Mary (Anthony) Aveni of North Branford, and Jennifer (Paul Panamarenko) DeChello of Hamden; her grandchildren Patrick (Mirljinda) Aveni; Kaitlyn, Kyle, Kevin, Kacey DeChello and their mother Nancy DeChello; her sisters, Kathleen Traub, Ruth Gindhart, and her sisters-in-law, Barbara Keyes and Elizabeth Keyes.  Mary was predeceased by her cherished son Joseph A. DeChello, her siblings, Gertrude Mohn, Rose Micucci, Margaret Amendola, Sara Keyes, George, David, Thomas, James, and John “Ted” Keyes, Sr. 

Mary attended St. Lawrence School and West Haven High School, starting her work years at the former Malley’s in New Haven. Later in life she worked for over twenty years before retiring from the New Haven Board of Education.  Mary loved spending time with her family, listening to music and taking trips to Vermont.  Together, with her husband John, she walked at West Haven Beach, gardened and watched their favorite team, the Boston Red Sox.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9-10:30am at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church, Precious Blood Parish 400 Merwin Ave. Milford, at 11am.  Interment will be private.  The DeChello family would like to thank the outstanding staff members at Yale New Haven Hospital and Connecticut Hospice for their care and compassion.
